After his store on the corner of Maple and Sagamore streets, MS Market, was hit by a vehicle for the fourth time in ten years, Syed “Tai” Tahir reached out to me with a petition signed by approximately 200 of his customers requesting a traffic signal at the intersection.

On Tuesday, February 6, I presented that petition to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen’s Committee on Public Safety, Health, & Traffic. I asked the committee, of which I am a member, to ask the Manchester Department of Public Works conduct a traffic signal analysis to determine if the intersection does, in fact, warrant a signal. I am happy to report that the committee voted unanimously to do so. The request will now go to the full Board of Mayor and Aldermen, which I am hopeful will pass it as well.

And while it has yet to be determined whether or not the intersection warrants a signal, what is certain is that there is a major need to slow down traffic on Maple Street. Work toward this goal, both on Maple and Beech streets, will continue to be a priority of mine.
