As noted in this space last month, at the request of MS Market owner Syed “Tai” Tahir and approximately 300 of his customers, I asked the Manchester Department of Pubic Works to conduct a traffic analysis of the intersection of Maple and Sagamore streets to determine if a traffic signal is warranted.

Alas, such a signal was determined by the DPW not to be warranted (read the full report from the DPW here).

But as I noted in a Union Leader article about the signal analysis conducted by the DPW, just because the study didn’t warrant a traffic signal at that one particular intersection does not mean that there are not serious speeding issues that need to be addressed along the “urban freeways” that are Maple and Beech streets.

To that end, I’ve further asked the DPW to conduct speed counts along these two streets so that we might gather data from which to begin finding solutions to this dangerous problem.
